Born in Istanbul in 2008, Duru Bulam began her flute studies in 2016 at the Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University Istanbul State Conservatory with Assoc. Prof. Aslıhan And Say, and transitioned to full-time education in 2018.
In 2019, she received an Honourable Mention at the 4th International Flute Competition held in Varna, Bulgaria. In 2020, she won second prize at the 9th Flutissimo International Flute Competition in Nice, France. In 2023, she was awarded first prize unanimously by the jury at the 8th International Festival Polyhymnia Flute Competition in Skopje, North Macedonia. In 2025, she again won first prize unanimously in her age category at the Flutissimo 2025 International Flute Competition in Nice, France. In the same year, she received second prize at the 22nd Davorin Jenko Flute Competition in Belgrade, Serbia.
In December 2024, she performed as a soloist with the Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University Istanbul State Conservatory Youth Orchestra conducted by Erhan Torlular. She also appeared as a ‘Young Soloist’ with the Istanbul Chamber Orchestra at the Süreyya Opera House under the baton of Marta Kluczyńska. In November 2025, she gave her first recital as part of the ‘We Are the Stars of the Future’ concert series at the Austrian Cultural Office.
She has been an active member of several youth orchestras, performing with the SDEK Youth Orchestra and the ADK Istanbul Youth Orchestra. She has been accepted as a full scholarship and an active participant in major festivals such as the 35th Galway Flute Festival and the International Flute Seminar in Bruges. Throughout her training, she has taken part in masterclasses with leading flautists including Prof. Aldo Baerten, Prof. Julien Beaudiment, Prof. Jürgen Franz, Prof. Gareth Davies, Prof. Bülent Evcil, Prof. Jülide Gündüz, Prof. Barbara Siesel, Prof. Philipp Jundt, Prof. Sibel Kumru Pensel, and Prof. Iva Lubrovinova.
