Honouring the festival’s theme Cultural Landscapes, Russian Seasons vs American Seasons is a project in which the borders between musical genres, continents and centuries are eliminated, and what endures is the consistent quality of the works themselves. Gidon Kremer returns to his former project of seasons with a fresh inspiration and a brand new viewpoint to “build bridges between different geniuses, different cycles, different worlds, making them a unit, a unity, giving them full exposure of the vitality, not just on its own but in the dialogue, making the dialogue possible.” as he himself explains. The Philip Glass’ composition for solo violin and strings, “American Four Seasons” will be supplemented with video installations produced by multimedia artists including Jonas Mekas, the legendary filmmaker, poet and artist who has often been called “the godfather of American avant-garde cinema”. In this inspirational festival concert, Gidon Kremer and his Kremerata Baltica will conquer the discerning audience, injecting vitality into the festival with their exuberance, energy, and joy in playing.
