The 36th International İstanbul Music Festival opens with a concert by the Wiener Kammerphilharmonie under the direction of Claudius Traunfellner accompanying Benyamin Sönmez, a cellist of extraordinary virtuosity who captivates music lovers in every country he visits. Winning great acclaim with being one of the top five winners among the 350 cellists competing at the 2006 International Adam Cello Competition, Benyamin Sönmez was also one of the young stars of the concert celebrating Rostropovich’s 80th birth anniversary in 2007.
