The 35th International İstanbul Music Festival opens with a concert by the Orchestra of Stars formed by a new generation of young artists recognized as stars with their virtuosity in their fields. With Cihat Aşkın, Özcan Ulucan, Atilla Aldemir, Erkin Onay, Esen Kıvrak, Çağ Erçağ and the Bosphorous Quartet among its members, the orchestra will be accompanying the recipents of the Festival’s 35th Honorary Awards: violinst Ayla Erduran and pianist İdil Biret. Erduran will perform Vivaldi’s Concerto for Three Violins with Özcan Ulucan and Cihat Aşkın, as a tribute to her performance of the same concerto with Suna Kan and Yehudi Menuhin at the first edition of the Festival 35 years ago. İdil Biret, who had performed Mozart’s Concerto for Two Pianos with Wilhelm Kempff at the age of 11, will be performing Bach’s Concerto for Two Pianos with the 11-year-old pianist Mertol Demirelli.
