Mesut İktu

Recognised as one of the leading figures in Turkish opera, Mesut İktu made significant contributions to the establishment of a strong operatic tradition in Türkiye and to the country’s global recognition in the field of classical music. Over a career spanning several decades, İktu performed in operas such as Rigoletto, Don Giovanni, and Tosca, appearing on stages across Türkiye, most notably at the Istanbul State Opera and Ballet.

He represented Türkiye at opera festivals and concert venues across Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, collaborating with renowned conductors and directors. These collaborations played a crucial role in shaping the identity of Turkish opera on the international stage, enhancing respect for the country’s cultural contributions to classical music, and paving the way for future generations of Turkish opera singers.

As an educator and mentor, İktu taught at Istanbul University State Conservatory, training young artists not only in technical skills but also in fostering a profound respect for the art of opera. Through workshops, masterclasses, and vocal seminars, he contributed to the development of a new generation of Turkish classical music and opera artists.

In addition, İktu undertook cultural initiatives to promote opera and classical music throughout Türkiye, working with cultural organisations to produce opera performances, recitals, and educational programmes. The recognition he received from various artistic and cultural institutions further cemented his role as a cultural ambassador for Turkish classical music.
