Flautist Maya Devrim Tanyılmaz, born in Istanbul in November 2008, completed her primary education at FMV Ayazağa Işık Secondary School. She began her part-time flute studies in 2016 at the Istanbul State Conservatory of Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University under Associate Professor Aslıhan And Say. In 2022, having successfully passed the entrance examinations, she was admitted to the same institution as a full-time student, where she continues her studies in the same class.
Tanyılmaz has achieved numerous successes in international competitions. In 2019, she received an honourable mention at the 4th International Flute Competition organised by the European Music Academy in Varna, Bulgaria. In 2020, she was awarded first prize in Category IIa at the 9th International Flute Competition organised by the French association À Travers la Flûte. In 2023, she won first prize by unanimous decision of the jury in Group III at the 11th International Flute Competition held in Nice by the same association. In 2024, she received an honourable mention at the 4th Cahit Koparal International Flute Competition, held as part of the Marmaris International Culture and Arts Festival. In 2025, she furthered her international success by winning first prize in her category at the Davorin Jenko International Flute Competition in Belgrade.
She was selected as one of the young talents to perform in İş Sanat’s 26th season ‘Parlayan Yıldızlar’concert series. Alongside her studies, she has been active as both a soloist and chamber musician, performing with the MSGSÜ State Conservatory Youth Orchestra under the direction of Erhan Torlular at venues such as the Cemal Reşit Rey Concert Hall and the Beylikdüzü Atatürk Culture and Arts Centre.
In 2024, she performed with the Sonorous Flute Ensemble as part of the Istanbul Philharmonic Association and also appeared at the Crusell Music Festival in Finland. She has participated in masterclasses with distinguished artists including Andrea Lieberknecht, Anna Garzuly Wahlgren, Matthieu Gauci Ancelin, Julien Baudiment, Kersten McCall, Sibel Pensel and Jülide Gündüz. In June 2024, she took part as an active participant in the 35th Galway Flute Festival held in Switzerland.
