Bassoonist Hüma Beyza Ünal’s stage experience began at an early age, with a solo concert at the Bursa Nilüfer Music Festival in 2016. In 2018, she participated in a masterclass with Gabriele Screpis, and in April 2019 she performed with the Bilkent Youth Symphony Orchestra as a soloist under the direction of Rustam Rahmedov. In June 2019, she was invited as a guest artist to TRT Ankara Radio, and in 2020 she performed an online concert with the Doğuş Children’s Symphony Orchestra, of which she was a member.
In 2022, she attended a masterclass with Mor Biron. From the same year onwards, Ünal has been continuing her studies at the Barenboim-Said Akademie with Mor Biron and Aziz Baziki, and regularly appears in chamber music and orchestral concerts with fellow academy students at the Pierre Boulez Saal. Since joining the academy, she has participated in various orchestral projects with the Barenboim-Said Akademie Orchestra under the direction of Daniel Barenboim and Nabil Shehata. Since 2022, she has also taken part in masterclasses with Daniel Barenboim and has performed with the Sinfonie Orchester Berlin under Igor Budinstein. In 2023, she appeared in chamber music and orchestral projects with leading musicians, performing chamber music with Emmanuel Pahud in May and appearing with Ensemble Matheus under Jean-Christophe Spinosi in June.
In the same year, she participated in the Musethica Chamber Music Week,, where she worked and performed with flautist Júlia Gállego. In October 2024, she gave her first concert with the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra under the direction of Daniel Barenboim and subsequently became a member of the orchestra.
In May 2025, Hüma Beyza Ünal joined the West-Eastern Divan Ensemble on its South American tour, performing at Cultura Artística in São Paulo, Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires and Teatro Solís in Montevideo. In February 2025, she appeared in a chamber concert with members of the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin (AKAMUS). In the same year, she was accepted to the Zermatt Festival Academy and selected to work with the Scharoun Ensemble, comprised of members of the Berlin Philharmonic.
She is scheduled to perform in June 2026 at the Intonations Festival organised by Elena Bashkirova, alongside François Leleux and Daniel Barenboim, as well as members of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, including Emmanuel Pahud and Daniele Damiano.
Continuing her studies at the Barenboim-Said Akademie in Berlin, bassoonist Hüma Beyza Ünal remains active in both chamber music and orchestral projects. Her upcoming engagements include participation in the Muri Competition in April 2026.
