Born in Istanbul in 2004, Deniz Akgün began her musical education in 2017 with piano lessons and continued with the double bass in 2018. That same year, she was accepted into the Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University Istanbul State Conservatory, where she began studying with Dr Onur Özkaya. Since then, she has performed in various chamber music, orchestra, and solo concerts, participating in a wide range of musical projects. As a chamber and orchestral musician, Akgün has performed with ensembles such as the Istanbul State Symphony Orchestra, CRR Symphony Orchestra, Doğuş Youth Symphony Orchestra, Contemporary Life Youth Orchestra, Orkestra Sion, Aşkın Ensemble, and the CRR Chamber Orchestra. In 2022, she was accepted into the Turkish National Youth Philharmonic Orchestra (TUGFO). With this prestigious ensemble, under the baton of Cem Mansur, she performed in notable venues including Rudolfinum Dvořák Hall (Prague), Altenburg Castle (Leipzig), Pauli Church (Dresden), and Berlin Konzerthaus. In Turkey, her performances with TUGFO included appearances at the Bursa Conservatory Concert Hall, İstanbul İş Sanat Concert Hall, and the new Presidential Symphony Orchestra Hall in Ankara.
Performing with the National Youth Orchestra of Luxembourg as part of its summer project, as well as giving concerts at the Mierscher Theater in Luxembourg and the Orpheus Theatre in the Netherlands in 2024, Akgün also participated in masterclasses with Artem Chirkov, Klaus Trumpf, Volkan Orhon, Petia Bagovska, Rick Stotijn, and Janne Saksala.
Her achievements in international competitions include third prize at the Primuz International String Competition, second prize at the Joseph Sammut Malta International Double Bass Competition, fourth prize at the II. Grunewald International Music Competition, and the special jury award in the chamber music category at the 2nd Ceren Necipoğlu Istanbul International Harp Festival.
In 2024, Deniz Akgün performed as a soloist with the Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University Istanbul State Conservatory. In the same year, she was awarded the TEV Outstanding Achievement Arts Scholarship, granted by the Turkish Education Foundation. A member of the TEV Turkish Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra, Akgün continues her musical education at MSGSÜ Istanbul State Conservatory under the guidance of Dr Onur Özkaya.
