Born in Manisa in 2006, Damla Ece Karataş began her piano studies at the age of six. She initially studied with Gülmira Ustalar, and later continued her studies Maestro İbrahim Yazıcı. In 2021, she was awarded a high-level scholarship to the Musica Mundi School in Belgium. There, she studied piano with Jacques Rouvier and Hagit Hassid Kerbel, while also following an intensive programme including music theory, harmony, music history, composition, and conducting within the Cambridge International Education system. She graduated from the Musica Mundi School with the highest distinction, Maxima Cum Laude. In 2025, she began her undergraduate studies in Piano Performance at the Royal College of Music in London, where she studies with Caterina Grewe.

She won first prize at the Bursa Nilüfer International Piano Competition in 2016 and at the ‘Musical Fireworks’ International Piano Competition in Germany in 2018. In the same year, she received second prizes at the Mozart International Piano Competition in Georgia and the “Heirs of Orpheus” International Piano Competition in Bulgaria. In 2018, she was accepted into ÇEV Sanat’s Young Talents programme, one of Türkiye’s leading initiatives supporting young artists, and in 2022 she performed as a soloist with orchestra at the Atatürk Cultural Centre under this programme. In 2021, in the programme’s initial year, she was selected for the ENKA Sanat Young Talents project upon the recommendation of pianist Ayşe Deniz Gökçin, and made professional recordings as part of the initiative.

Karataş has given solo and chamber music concerts in various cities across Türkiye and Europe, and has performed frequently in Antwerp, Brussels, Waterloo, Mechelen, and Ghent in Belgium. In 2025, she appeared as a soloist with the Sonores Symphony Orchestra in Ghent. In 2023, she performed at the Sint-Rombouts Cathedral in Mechelen in honour of Cardinal De Kesel, and later that year gave a solo performance at a private concert organised for Queen Mathilde of Belgium. She also took part as a chamber musician in a charity concert for the ‘Suena’ foundation of Princess Esmeralda of Belgium.

She has participated in masterclasses with leading pianists and pedagogues such as Pavel Gililov, Dmitri Alexeev, Björn Lehmann, Dina Parakhina, Jean-Bernard Pommier, Konstanze Eickhorst, Francesco Libetta, Paul Gulda, and Andreas Frölich. In chamber music, she has worked with Leonid Kerbel and Alexandra Soumm.

Raised in an international musical environment, Damla Ece Karataş continues to expand her solo and chamber music repertoire and maintains an active concert career across Europe.
