Born in 2006, Birce Kayhan has pursued her interests in piano, ballet, modern and contemporary dance. In 2016, she entered Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University Istanbul State Conservatory, where she began studying clarinet with Ebru Mine Sonakin.

In 2018, she was awarded a scholarship by the Yamaha Music Europe Foundation. That same year and in 2019, she took part in masterclasses at the Urla Music Academy with Nicolas Baldeyrou and Alain Damiens. As part of the National Sovereignty and Children’s Day celebrations, she also appeared twice as a jazz soloist with the TRT Radio Big Band.

In September 2021, she joined The Purcell School in the UK, where she studied with Izzie Couch, Stephen Williams, and Joy Farrall, and was named the Sir Charles Mackerras Scholar for the 2021–22 academic year. In 2022, she received an award in the school’s Middle School Concerto Competition, which led to a performance of Johann Stamitz’s Clarinet Concerto with the Purcell Middle School Orchestra under the baton of Paul Hoskins in February 2023. Since then, Kayhan has performed major works including Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue, Schoenberg’s Pierrot Lunaire, and Holst’s The Planets, and has appeared in solo and chamber music performances at prestigious venues such as Wigmore Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall, Elgar Concert Hall, and Cadogan Hall.

In June 2024, Birce Kayhan was invited to the Hertfordshire Festival of Music, where she had previously attended masterclasses, to perform Herbert Howells’ Clarinet Sonata. During the 2023–24 season, she was selected as one of only eight participants in the London Philharmonic Orchestra’s Young Artists Programme, and the sole young clarinettist among them. As part of the programme, she performed in various concerts and took part in tours throughout the season.

She currently continues her studies at The Purcell School, receiving clarinet tuition from Stephen Williams and jazz vocal training from Jacqui Hicks.
