Soloist change in the 42nd Istanbul Music Festival

Latest representative of the Russian piano school Alexander Romanovsky closes the festival in replacement of Yuja Wang who had to cancel due to illness

Pianist Yuja Wang, who were to appear as the soloist in the Istanbul Music Festival’s closing concert this year, had to cancel due to an unfortunate accident, which will most probably keep her away from the stage for nearly three months. The 42nd Istanbul Music Festival will instead close with Alexander Romanovsky, one of the most riveting pianists of our time.

The Closing Concert of the 42nd Istanbul Music Festival will feature pianist Alexander Romanovsky, renowned as an individual and subtle performer with an utterly engaging voice, with the Borusan Istanbul Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Sascha Goetzel, at the Zorlu Center Performing Arts Center on Friday, 27 June at 20:30. The concert programme remains as scheduled: Mr. Romanovsky will perform Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No.1; the orchestra will also play the Alpine Symphony by Strauss.

Jérôme Ducros replaces Yuja Wang in the Festival Encounters -II

A regular hub in the Istanbul Music Festival, the one-off project series Festival Encounters will bring violinist Kirill Troussov and cellist Gautier Capuçon together with Jérôme Ducros, in replacement of Yuja Wang. The concert, will take place in the elegant atmosphere of the Albert Long Hall on Tuesday, 24 June at 21:00. The programme will include Brahms’ Sonata for Cello & Piano No.1, Mendelssohn-Bartholdy’s Piano Trio No.2 and Dvorak’s Piano Trion No.4.

Yuja Wang’s Letter to the Festival

Yuja Wang sent a letter to the Istanbul Music Festival, sharing her sorrow for not being able to come:

“I’m very sorry to have to cancel my debut appearance in Turkey at the fabulous Istanbul Music Festival. I have been looking forward to this appearance entire year, both for the concerts as well as getting to know and your fabulous city and the wonderful Turkish audiences.   So many of my friends have told me this would be the highlight of my year, and that I would want to come back again and again!   Sadly, due to an injury to my ribs, I regrettably cannot travel and play in Istanbul next week.  I hope everyone can understand, and I very much hope I can debut at the Festival next season – in full health!”

If you would prefer to return your ticket due to the change of soloist, you can get a refund from the box office where you purchased your ticket. (IKSV main box office is open from 10:00 to 18:00 every day except Sundays. For tickets bought from Biletix, please contact any Biletix outlet.)
