The 39th Istanbul Music Festival has started!
39th Istanbul Music Festival has started on Saturday, 4 June with an opening ceremony and concert held at Hagia Eirene Museum. The opening ceremony started with Bülent Eczacıbaşı’s speech, chairman of the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts Executive Committee.
The Honorary Award which is given annually to the contributors of classical music in Turkey, was given this year to one of the Turkey’s leading composer, instructor and music researcher Muammer Sun, who has devoted his life to universalize the multi-sound music by building over 160 children and teen chorus in the late 60’s and by his compositions, published education books and folklore arrangements. IKSV executive committee Bülent Eczacıbaşı has given the award.
The 39th İstanbul Music Festival’s “Life time Achievement Award” will be given to one of the most inspiring and prestigious violinist of our century, the founder of the Lockenhaus Festival and Kremerata Baltica, who has over 100 albums which he gained many awards for and the author of 4 books, master artist Gidon Kremer. His award will be given on June 10, Friday night at Hagia Eirene Museum before his concert where he will be playing the Bach Transcriptions Series with his orchestra Kremerata Baltica, from the pieces he ordered from 7 different composers and which he dedicated to Glenn Gould and J.S. Bach.
39th Istanbul Musci festival Opening Concert
İKSV’s permanent orchestra Borusan İstanbul Filarmoni, under the administration of Sascha Goetzel have played the “İzmir Rapsody” by composer Muammer Sun who is the owner of the this year’s Honorary Award. The concert continued with 2010 BBC Young Musicians Contest winner Lara Melda’s vocalization of Edvard Grieg’s “La minor piano concerto”. Sergei prokofiev’s “İskit Suit, Op. 20” was played at the end of the concert.
