The festival receives praises from abroad

The unusual concerts of the 45th Istanbul Music Festival continues to receive flattering comments from the pioneering website for classical music, Bachtrack. The website pointed out the Music Route, realised on 3 June in the historical venues of Yeniköy under the sponsorship of bluechip Creative Events, and Eternal Love that took place in the Grand Bazaar on 4 June under the sponsorship of ECA-Serel as one of the most successful events of the year and rated them 4 stars.

In Jonathan Sutherland’s enthusiastic review, Music Route was hailed as “a feast for peripatetic music lovers in Istanbul” and “a real triumph of creative artistic planning”. Sutherland emphasized, in his review of the Eternal Love, that the performance was a perfect fit for the theme of this year’s festival, “Unusual”.

In another article titled “Víkingur Ólafsson Dazzles Istanbul With His Goldberg Variatons”, written by Alain Matalon, the performance of pianist Víkingur Ólafsson, realised on 7 June at Boğaziçi Unviersity Albert Long Hall under the sponsorship of Işıklar Holding A.Ş., was rated 5 stars.

Having joined the festival programme last year, the Music Route invited listeners to explore the hidden treasures of Yeniköy –a coastal neighbourhood on the Bosphorus– with concerts by close to 20 artists in historical venues.

In the Eternal Love, hard player Şirin Pancaroğlu and vocalist Bora Uymaz’s Şimdi Ensemble performed the most brilliant examples of the sufi music in the company of tuba and serpent virtuoso, Michel Godard.

Recipient of Iceland Musician of the Year Award and one of the rising stars of classical music, pianist Víkingur Ólafsson mesmerised the audience with his masterful interpretation of the Goldberg Variations and his flawless technique.
